Project 1: On-Site Observation Journal

Brief: Individually, we are required to capture tangible and intangible elements of the site and the measured building through sketches. The tangible elements include overall urban layout, streetscapes, architectural elements, and features while intangible elements include the associated social living and cultural elements. The sketches are accompanied by interpretive captions to demonstrate students’ awareness of the contextual relationships between heritage architecture and the place.

Outcome:  10 pages of manual sketches in A4 size compiled into a PDF file.

SELF REFLECTION

I have learned on the importance of being observant while capturing important details and the spirit of Valley of Hope, Sungai Buloh. It was a very first site visit for some of us due to the pandemic situation that caused long term of locked down. The site vistt experience not only allows us to conduct site analysis but also exposes us to the local way of life and the unique culture of the place as being physically and psychologically immersed within the environment.  We divided our tasks into different group in making sure that the tasks are being completed as soon as possible within the allocated time as the site location is far from the place we live.
