Project 2: Research in Asian Architecture

Brief: In a group of 7, we are required to generate an in-depth and critical understanding of tradition, modernity, and globalization of the Asian architectural contexts in A1 size research poster format and video presentation. We were to choose a traditional street from Project 1 to expand the specific scope of the study.

Outcome: The topic that we proposed was "Diminishing Authenticity of Petaling Street's Architecture and Place Identity" which explained the factors, causes, and effects that lead to the loss of Petaling Street's identity. The methods that were used to conduct this research poster such as the literature review, analysis, and virtual site observation. Presentation slides were created to provide further explanation on our 10-minute video presentation.

SELF REFLECTION

The process of researching and writing the poster "Diminishing Authenticity of Petaling Street's Architecture and Place Identity" provided me and my group members with a valuable opportunity to not just learn about the characteristics of Petaling Street architecture but to develop a unique contribution during the research progress such as appreciating the differences in others. The research for this poster involved a process of elimination and rejection to further improve on our conceptual framework, research questions and findings. Due to time management problem, we were unable to find a suitable case studies to provide an extra information with a more in depth investigation and understanding of the traditional street. Nonetheless, we manage to complete the project through methods such as analysis, virtual site observation and literature reviews.
